Q: Please answer this message as honestly as you can.  Is there a difference between a bald man (not shaved) asking a woman out for a date and a man with hair?  I need a woman’s perspective on whether to have a hair transplant. –Deciding.

A: The first thing I want to ask is: Have you been letting too much heat escape out the top of your head?  How else could you put such an important and personal decision into the hands of another?  What you do with and to your body should be based on what feels right for you.  Buffing or foofing the very head that warehouses your brain would seem to be more of a time constraint dilemma to me.

Hmmmm…if having hair will boost your ego/self-esteem and faux fur makes it easier to ask the ladies out, then by all means, go for it.  But before you make a hair plug appointment, I would work on the quality of your conversation skills first.  Why, you ask?

Here ye, Hair ye—there’s good news.  Lots of ladies are now loving and yes, requesting the bald man.  Why?  My guess is that the darn media (for once we’re the good guys) is on a promoting surge of handsome domes; from the eloquently British Jean Luc Picard to perennial sports favorite Michael Jordan and buff action hero Vin Diesel.  Even superhero Christopher Reeve turned rebel and got his head shaved completely.  He quipped, “It’s outside of the box for a preppie from Princeton.”

Now, let’s say you cancel that hair doctor consult and Rogaine prescription, for now.  You make your sweet chivalrous move.  But you get shot down.  Conduct an exit interview. Was it really because of the baldness?  Then she should be shot down for her shallowness.

I didn’t really give bald guys much thought one way or the other before I met my friend “Eagle.”  Great at conversation, and lots of fun, he taught me that hair is not a communication prerequisite, personality is.  Now go, follow Eagle’s soaring maneuvers teaching more open minded-students.

By the way, hair tricks fool no one.  Comb-overs, spray paint, shag rugs and weaves may make you more attractive initially from a distance.  But if you want to impress for longer than five minutes up close, lose the gimmicks. Be honest and earn her respect.
