Cool Chick's Club
Hi to my esteemed wonderful women friends...
I know we're all really busy. So much that we can barely keep up
by e-mail. I don't know about you, but sometimes I miss my
friends, even though they're not that far away.
So I'm hatching this idea...have a fun personal gathering that
brings several of us out for social and chatting.
Maybe once a month. Something easy. Invite some brilliant, fun,
witty, busy, sassy gals...gee, know of any?!!
For anyone in the Denver area who's interested, here's the first
Cool Chick's Club outing:
What: (Movie)The Women (opens Sept 13) A new
comedy with lots 'o great female stars, directed by one, too!
trailer:
http://www.thewomenthemovie.com/index.html
When/Where: Saturday, September 27th, 7:10 pm
; Belmar theater in Lakewood--if
details change, they'll be posted at this pink humor site:
www.ToucheToon.com under "events"
Wear something visibly pink and aim for the center of the
theater towards the right.
Your ring leader for this one is Che'Che@ToucheToon.com
Afterwards, we'll shoot for Baker Street Pub (Johnny Rockets
went outta biz?!) to circle up the chic
posse. I'd love to hear a 2 minute rundown on what you've been
up to-good, bad or other.
Come if you can. Save the reasons if you can't. You're still
cool.
Feel free to round up the next posse or cool gig! This isn't
that structured. Invite your gal pals. |

CAI partners with Squid Works Comics for the
5th Annual 24 Hour Comics Challenge
October 18 - 19th at Enchanted Grounds! Saturday,
October 18, 2007, from 2 pm to 2 pm, Squid Works Comics
will once again be coordinating the annual Denver 24
Hour Comic Book Day Challenge at Enchanted Grounds at
8800 South Colorado Boulevard in Highlands Ranch.
This quickly-growing event has been an exciting part of
the Denver art scene for the last four years, garnering
coverage by KCNC, WB2, the Denver Rocky Mountain News,
Westword, The Onion, KGNU and Project A.
The idea of the 24 hour comic was invented by leading
comics theoretician, Scott McCloud, who devised it as a
challenge to show creators just what they are capable
of. The challenge is to complete a 24 page comic written
and drawn by one person in the course of 24 consecutive
hours. The moment the pencil hits the paper, the clock
is ticking. You can eat, sleep, or do anything else you
need to during the time, but the clock keeps going.
This event has helped to put Denver's largely unknown
comics scene on the map, landing five of the completed
24 hour comic stories in About Comics' 24 Hour Comic Day
Anthology series, and launching Denver's own 24 Hour
Comics People - A Comics Anthology 2007.
This year, we continue to seek the financial support of
sponsors to help us collect the finished works of this
year's participants in another Denver 24 Hour Comics
Challenge anthology, which we can give each of the
successful creators a contributor copy of, in addition
to compensating the hard-working folks that are putting
the book together, and providing energizing meals and
beverages to the participants.
This year's challenge will be limited to 32 registrants,
but spectators are encouraged to come watch the works in
progress and provide support.
Your generous sponsorship will be proudly displayed
in the resulting anthology book - a substantial,
enduring book that readers are sure to treasure.
Both the CAI and Enchanted Grounds are already proud
sponsors of this year's event.
Sponsorships must be received by September 17, 2008 to
be included in press releases.

Ever wonder what's on an Art Director's mind--deadlines, desires,
editorial calendar, metro magazine trends...or when's lunch?
Come meet and greet several of these busy talented folks at the
Colorado Alliance of Illustrators new November program
(a fast replacement of Danlyn's cool program that's moving to
spring).
Part panel discussion, part portfolio pitch*. You'll get a chance to
hear what magazine people are seeking, and get a 2 minute portfolio
flip though with each. You'll get a heads up on some great
publications, while they get to see some of Denver area's best/hot
illustrative talent.
Magazine Art Directors Meet, Greet
& Peek with CAI Illustrators
(Magazines: 5280, Denver Woman, Single's Resource Guide
and Advertising & Marketing Review represented**)

5280's art director Mike Leister is
representing his 6th magazine. He's worked all over the country
including Indianapolis Monthly and Sports
Illustrated in New York. 5280 has been one of
Denver's best loved and long-running city magazines. Mike has
been with them since June of 2006.
Denver Woman Magazine's editor Judy Taylor will
talk about established and changing publication needs. She

I’m really excited about this new six-hour workshop I’m
launching! It’s the type of workshop I wish someone had
been offering when I started out. It’s designed to give
writers, both new and established, a crash course in the
ENTIRE process of producing a book. It’s been my
experience as a writer and a coach that when most
writers reach the next stage in their process, they
stall out. The support materials for this workshop will
guide writers when they reach those next steps.
Thank you! Teresa Funke |
